The city
Maastricht is well-known as old Roman fortified city, but there are many more aspectes that have made this city famous. The many monumental buildings contribute to an international feel. Make a self-guided tour through Maastricht and discover the 'Stokstraatkwartier', the 'Onze Lieve Vrouweplein' and the basilica and the town ramparts.
International history
..and there is the Treaty of Maastricht as well, signed in 1992, in which the historical decision was made to introduce the Euro. In the 'Gouvernement' (provincial government building) you can have a look at the very table where the leaders of the governments signed the treaty.
Euregion
Maastricht forms the centre of the Euregion. Centrally located in relation to Hasselt (the jenever city of Belgium), Aachen and Liège.
